Paul Ashbaugh for Jefferson County Commissioner
Welcome and Background
I am Paul L. Ashbaugh and I am campaigning to be your next County Commissioner. I live at 1100 Chestnut Hill Road, Harpers Ferry District, on the Blue Ridge Mountain. I was born in England, but I've lived here in Jefferson County for most of my life. I have been married for 38 years to Donna Ashbaugh, and have one son, Paul Ashbaugh, II.

I served two years in the army and one year in Vietnam. I was co-chairman of a statewide group called WV Citizens for a Clean Environment. I have also been very involved in, as well as a member of, the Coalition for the Homeless here in Jefferson County. After working in Northern Virginia, MD, and DC, I decided to go into business for myself. I have been a self-employed, small developer and builder for 22 years now.

I made the decision to run for County Commission to fight for your rights and mine. I never wanted to get into politics but, with my back against the wall, I feel a need to protect our rights. A perfect example of citizen rights being trampled on is the unfair Impact fee taxes imposed on the citizens of this county by a select few. I was against it from the beginning and have not changed my mind. This is something that should have been decided by the voters of Jefferson County. Now the present commission is planning to impose a $2500 Impact Fee tax for storm water management. Is this the kind of leadership you want in this county?

We need to put some sanity and fairness back into county government. I ask that voters take a close look at all the candidates and read what's between the lines.  I have created this website to keep you informed about the information I discover on my journey.

We need a fair and balanced government, with fiscal responsibility and common sense - which they currently have very little of.
Our county government has violated and raped the rights of farmers' and land owners' - my own rights. Now, to protect your land rights, it has to be taken all the way to the state supreme court. That's why I finally decided to run for Jefferson County Commission.
